She was born in St. Louis, Missouri on July 5, 1941 to the late Elmer Elsworth and Anna Hardy Sanburn. As a young army bride and wife, Judy, experienced Francis “Frank” Cooper’s deployments to Korea and Vietnam with grace. Together they had children born in numerous states and rounded out the family with her last two children being born while stationed in Germany.
Judy enjoyed collecting Precious Moments and was a charter member of their club.
A talented seamstress, she used her abilities to make numerous things, such as: banners for her church, pillowcase dresses for African Children’s Outreach and Operation Christmas Child, children’s quilts for UMMC, wheelchair bags for nursing home patients, dolls for MS disaster relief, heart pillows and bags for cancer patients.
Quilting was a particular joy of hers. She won numerous awards for her quilts and had two displayed at the MS Agriculture Museum. Her quilts are treasures.
Throughout the years she also gave handmade individualized gifts to her many friends and family. She was considered the social chair of several of her groups by sending birthday cards to all members. She loved socializing with her friends and was a member of the Rankin County Quilters, The Wynndale Quilters, Wynndale Winners and FBC Terry’s Silver Bells.
Judy was always smiling. She had a way of making all feel as if they were a member of her family. Fun loving aunt and friend to many, Judy never met a stranger.
