Julia Reese Stewart, 91, died February 21, 2013, at Baptist Medical Center.
Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 5pm today at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home, 350 High Street in Jackson, and at 10:00 a.m. Monday in the Chapel of First Baptist Church of Jackson, with a Memorial Service to follow at 11:00am.
Mrs. Stewart was a native of Shelby, the daughter of the late James and Maude Reese. She had been a resident of Jackson for over sixty years.
Following graduation from high school in Shelby, she moved to Washington, D.C. to work for the federal government during World War II. She lived briefly in Kingsport, TN, and then moved to Jackson after the war, where she was employed by the telephone company for several years. In later years she worked for the Mississippi Baptist Convention, the state Department of Insurance, and the Department of Education.
She was a faithful and committed member of First Baptist Church for many years. She taught both Sunday School and Training Union, and she was actively involved in the Women's Missionary Union. She loved her family, her friends, and her church.
Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and two brothers, and her husband, Henry Orville Stewart. She is survived by her son, Henry Alan Stewart, and his wife, Leslie Jacobs, of Memphis, TN; two granddaughters, Alanna and Morgan Stewart; and a number of nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
