

A prankster at heart, he always had a joke or story to tell and many were blessed by his friendship. A veteran of the US Navy, he earned a Master's degree in Education from the University of Southern Mississippi and served in the Jackson Public School System as a teacher, then principal, for several decades. He also served his church, 1st Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Jackson, MS, as an Elder and a Deacon and was a true child of God.
Marcell is survived by his daughters Marcia Wofford (James) of Clemmons, NC; Beth Perez (Juan) of Orlando, FL; step-son, Lawrence (Larry) Tierce of Tupelo, MS; step-daughter Beverly Simmons (Don) of Byram, MS; grandchildren Brooke Freeman (who lovingly cared for him up until his passing) Claire Wofford, Madalyn Wofford (Byron Browne), Luke Wofford, Carrie Satterfield (Max), Candice Pitts (Tom), Cassie Tierce, Taylor Freeman, Brian Simmons, and Patrick Simmons. Surviving great-grandchildren are Cain Sudduth, Rio Hardin Smith (Lonnie), Natalie Freeman, Virginia Rose Pitts, Kohlbe Lewison, J.C. Smithey, Mason J. Wheeler, Wyatt Freeman, Jude Tierce, Brian Simmons, Jr., and Tyson G. Freeman and great-great-grandchildren are Korben Hardin, Calyn Smith.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 26, 2020, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Lakewood South Memorial Park with a Graveside Service to follow.
