Scott Barton Laxson

Scott Barton Laxson, aged 70, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2025 at his home in Athens, AL, after a battle with cancer. He was born on June 17, 1954 in Amarillo, TX. His memory will forever be cherished.

Scott was a graduate of Tascosa High School and Texas Tech University with a degree in Political Science. Scott spent much of his career working in Human Resources and retired from Trustmark National Bank in 2020.

Scott was a kind and understanding husband and father with profound love for his family. Scott enjoyed golf, watching his sons and grandchildren compete in sports as they grew up, playing his guitar collection, and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah Laxson, Athens, AL; sister, Danene Arp of Amarillo, TX; sons, Justin Laxson (Jennifer) of Madison, MS, Kevin Laxson (Rachel) of Madison, MS, Barry Walters (Leslie) of Madison, MS; daughter, London Zera (Alex) of Nashville, TN; seven grandchildren, Dawson Walters, Sutton Walters, Maddux Walters, Mary Henley Laxson, Ella Laxson, Bo Laxson, and Shelby Laxson.

Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Neva Laxson, and by his former wife Freda Laxson.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm with funeral services to immediately follow at Lakewood Funeral Home and Memorial Park in Jackson, MS.

Memorials may be made to either St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Glioblastoma Research Organization in Scott’s memory to help others fighting cancer.
