Thomas Alvin Bell, Jr. died at home on July 15, 2011. After a private interment, there will be visitation at First Presbyterian Church, 1390 North State Street, Jackson, Mississippi, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2011.
Mr. Bell, born February 13, 1962, in New Orleans, Louisiana, was the son of Thomas Alvin Bell, Sr. and Barbara Trapp Bell of Jackson, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his father and his sister, Cecelia Bell Delbridge.
After receiving his early education in Jackson, he continued his education at Hinds Jr. College, Millsaps College and New York University, New York. Always seeking beauty in the arts, Thomas was drawn to the culinary world, as well as to the
people he met. Never meeting a stranger, he enjoyed meeting and conversing with all manner of people from all walks of life. Enjoying the presentation of food and excellent cooking, he sought the catering business. Working in Jackson at Kitchen Delights, The Purple Parrot in Hattiesburg and later starting a business of his own gave him much pleasure.
He is survived by his mother, Barbara Trapp Bell, and four special cousins: Betty Marble Martin of Jackson, MS, Sallie Martin Riddell of Madison, MS, Linda Ashford Hill of Grenada, MS and Barbara Ashford Mood of Oxford, MS, plus many other cousins from the Bell family, the Trapp family and the Glidewell family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church at 1390 North State Street, Jackson, MS 39202; the Thomas Alvin Bell, Sr. Memorial Scholarship at The Reformed Theological Seminary, 5422 Clinton Boulevard, Jackson, MS 39209; or to a charity of your choice.
