
Vera Laru (Avera) Andrews, 83, died Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at the Village of Cook Springs in Pell City, AL. Funeral services will be held Friday April 5, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Broadmeadow United Methodist Church in Jackson, MS. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church. Graveside service will be 4:30 p.m. Friday at Tylertown City Cemetery.
Born in 1929 in State Line, MS, Mrs. Andrews was the only child to Bayard R. Avera and Mattie C. (Neel) Avera. Mrs. Andrews graduated from State Line High School, attended Blue Mountain College and graduated from Mississippi State College for Women. Following college, Mrs. Andrews worked as a home economist for Florida Power and Light. She married her college sweetheart, Richard Houston Andrews, in 1956 and moved to Jackson, MS.
She was an active member of Broadmeadow United Methodist Church for over 50 years, served several offices in the UMW and taught Sunday school. With her husband, she was an avid gardener and Miss State bulldog supporter and raised cattle and timber in the Kokomo, MS community.
Mrs. Andrews is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Richard Houston Andrews. She is survived by her two daughters and son-in-laws, Linda Laru (Andrews) and Lucian Allison (Al) Wooten of Idaho Falls, ID, and Gretchen Marie (Andrews) and David Bryan (Ernie) Kennamer of Birmingham, AL. She is also survived by her four granddaughters Leslie Ann Wooten of Fort Collins, CO; Morgan Olivia Kennamer of Birmingham, AL; Lila Kathryn Wooten of Idaho Falls, ID; and Skyler Elizabeth Kennamer of Birmingham, AL.
The family would like to express appreciation to Jessie Tynes, June Crellin, Sargie Hubbard and the Comfort Keepers sitters for their friendship, assistance and loving care of Mrs. Andrews over the few years.
