Vera, formerly of Jackson, MS made her journey home to her Lord and Savior on June 12 at her daughter’s home in Gonzales, LA surrounded by loving family. She was born on December 26,1925 in Birmingham, England and met and married Charles W. Koenig while he was serving in the US Army during WWll. Vera was a kindergarten teacher as well as a faithful Sunday school teacher for many years at Daniel Memorial Baptist Church. She’s preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Elizabeth Chalmers, brother John Chalmers and sister Cath Arkell, her beloved husband Charles as well as her loving sons Stephen William, John Charles, and Mark Chalmers.
Survivors include daughters Jennifer Tauchen (Glenn) of Jackson, MS and Kathy Centanni (Vick) of Gonzales, LA., grandchildren Leanna Jones, Tammy Gordon, Tuesday Smith, Vonny Faucheux, Armand Centanni, Jessica Koenig, Westley Koenig, Tara Chitko, Lake Koenig, Collin Koenig, Jordan Koenig, 18 great grandchildren, a great great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. Vera will always be remembered for her strong faith and love for the Lord, British wit, zest for life and always remaining young at heart.
Arrangements are being handled by Lakewood Funeral Home on Clinton Blvd in Jackson, MS. Services will be on Wednesday June 17 at 11:00 am with visitation beginning at 9:00 am.
