A longtime resident of the Jackson area, Virginia was born September 23, 1934, in Monroe, LA to the late J.B. Golden and Viola Golden Emily, and was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 42 years, Richard F. Brown. She was a longtime member of Terry Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. After raising her children, Virginia completed her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Jackson State University to facilitate her work as a counselor for victims of substance abuse. She worked in that capacity for many years until her retirement. One of her greatest pleasures was her devotion and contribution to The Mississippi National Guard NCO Association of Mississippi, during her husband’s lengthy career with the Mississippi Air National Guard and U.S. Air Force. Virginia also enjoyed gardening, her pets, travel, and, most of all, time spent with her family. She leaves a lasting legacy of her love of life, great sense of humor, and compassionate insight to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan Brown Ansley (Andrew) of Apopka, FL; son, Richard F. Brown (Meg) of Terry, MS; grandson, Christopher Springer (Sheryl) of Little Rock, AR; step-brother, Ronald Emily (Susan) of Nashville, TN, and extended family.
The family thanks the staff of Lakeland Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center for their excellent and loving care of Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Terry Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 109 W. Claiborne St., P.O. Box 325, Terry, MS 39170.
