

Funeral Services for Mr. William Tilmon (Bill) Swales, age 94, of Jackson, will be held Friday, November 4, 2011 at 2:00p.m. in the Chapel of Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home on High Street with Stan Cheatham officiating. Interment will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will begin 1:00 till 2:00p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Swales died on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at the Mississippi State Veterans Home. He was born on March 15, 1917 in Edinburg, MS. He was preceded in death by his parents, William H. and Bessie Hooper Swales, his lovely wife, Kathleen Dickson Swales, five brothers, Joe Brooks Swales, Winfred H. Swales, Cecil H. Swales, W. Jack Swales, Denver W. Swales and five sisters, Rosa Ellen Swales, Lucille Swales James, Byrnece Swales Turner, Lillie Mae Swales Miller and Katheryn Swales Shearer. He is survived by two sisters-in-law (Lib Collier Swales and Rose Marie Swales) and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Swales was a WWII Veteran, serving his country in the European Theater of Operations in England, France, Holland and Germany and was the recipient of the Bronze Star. After the war, he worked for the Veteran’s Administration in Jackson, MS where he retired after many years of service.
He and his wife were avid travelers to different parts of the world. They especially enjoyed trips to France to visit the families he befriended during the war. He was a long-time, faithful member of First Presbyterian Church in Jackson and a life member of the Jackson Garden Club.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff of Camellia Home Health & Hospice and the Mississippi State Veterans Home for their loving care. A very, very special thanks goes out to Mr. Swales “best friend” and therapist, Jeremy Ward, whose devotion and special care provided Mr. Swales with the ability to enjoy his final years.
