

Betty Nunn Morris, age 78, of Jackson, passed away on October 4, 2015 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. She was born on March 27, 1937 in Jackson, Tennessee to the late Blanche Gregory and Elliot Jelks (Dick) Nunn.
Betty attended the Jackson City Schools, and graduated from Jackson High School. She was a member of Delta Beta Sigma National High School sorority and was their national president.
She graduated from Vanderbilt University where she was a member of Chi Omega Fraternity. After graduation, she taught school in Nashville and Jackson. In 1962, she married Herron Pearson Morris, who survives. After the birth of their son Dick, she became a stay at home mother.
She was a member of the Cotillion Club and served as president of the Jackson Service League. She was a member of Bal Masque and was queen in 1990.
As an avid golfer, she served as president of the Jackson Country Club Ladies Golf Association and as President of The Tennessee Women’s Golf Association.
She was a member of the Mary Anna Ashby Children’s Fund.
Betty served as a director on the Old Hickory Academy Board and on the Hollywood Cemetery Board. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church all of her life. She was a youth counselor, worked with the confirmation class, and served as chair of the Board of Trustees. She taught the Dick Nunn Sunday School Class for over twenty years.
Betty will be remembered for the delicious peach preserves which she made and shared with friends.
She is survived by her husband, Herron Morris and her son, Dick Morris and wife Susan; her grandchildren, Elliot and Sarah-Cabot Morris; special cousins, Kathryn Dixon and Nancy Davis; and her brother in law, Bill Morris and wife Nancy.
Visitation will be in Disciple Hall of First United Methodist Church on Thursday, October 8, 2015 from 12-2 p.m. with a memorial service to follow in the sanctuary at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dan Camp and Dr. Paul Clayton officiating. Private interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to the Nunn Children’s Playground at First United Methodist Church or to Hollywood Cemetery.
