Billie Dalton Sowell

Mr. Sowell was born on January 1, 1931 in Madison County, TN to the late Leodie and Mossie Smith Sowell. He was a member of Oakfield Baptist Church. Mr. Sowell lived his entire life within five miles of where he was born and was raised by his grandmother, Ms. Leanna Sowell. He went to work for ICG Railroad in 1951 and retired after 31 years of service. Just like his loving wife Marie, Billie enjoyed worshiping his Lord, spending time with family, working in the yard, fishing, gardening, and just riding through the county.

Billie was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Marie Sowell in February of this year; a daughter, Denise Sowell Broadway.

He is survived by a daughter, Linda Cearley (Steve) of Jackson, TN; two grandchildren, Bill Cearley (Joanna) and Stephanie Chism (Jeremy); his brother, Raymond Sowell (Margaret); a sister, Shirley Wiles; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Sowell will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary of Oakfield Baptist Church. Interment will follow the services at Oakfield Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held on Saturday evening, April 26, 2015 from 5-7 p.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home.

Active Casketbearers to serve will be Bill Cearley, Steve Cearley, Jeremy Chism, Marty Little, Sammie Broadway, and Raymond Jones.

Honorary casketbearers will be Stephanie Chism and Joanna Cearley.

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family has requested that memorials in Billie’s memory be directed to Oakfield Baptist Church
