Carol Ellen Rushing

She was born on December 25, 1968 in Shelby County, TN to Claudia Henderson Rushing and the late Jerry Franklin Rushing.

Carol was a graduate of South Side High School in Jackson, TN. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Union University and was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She attended the University of Memphis while working towards her Nurse Practitioners Degree. Carol was a registered nurse with Jackson Madison County General Hospital for thirty years; eighteen of those were in Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab where she enjoyed working with patients towards their improved health goals. She was a member of the American Heart Association and was actively involved in the “Go Red” for Heart Disease campaign. Carol was a member of Malesus Baptist Church.

In addition to her father, she is preceded in death by her brother, Mark Rushing, her grandparents; Claude and Betty Raines Henderson, and Virgil and Catherine Blackwell Rushing.

She is survived by her children; Shelby Sweat Garrett (Husband Josh) and Cameron Sweat; Scott Sweat father of her children and her mother, Claudia Rushing.

The family will receive family and friends on Thursday, September 30, 2021 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the South Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons in Jackson, TN. A graveside service for family and friends will follow at 1:30p.m. at Highland Memorial Gardens with Bro. Mark Cagle officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Malesus Baptist Church, Madison Baptist Church, or charity of choice.
