

Charles “Bud” Futrell Jr., age 79 of Jackson, TN, passed away October 15, 2011 at the Jackson Madison County General Hospital. He was born April 28, 1932 in Madison County, TN to Charles “Sambo” Futrell, Sr. and Louise Newton Futrell.
After graduating from Malesus High School in 1950, he started work with the Illinois Central Railroad. In November 1950, as an 18 year old, he joined the United States Air Force. He was Honorably Discharged on November 8, 1954. He received the United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal while serving his Country. Upon returning to Jackson after his Discharge from the Air Force, he returned to work at the Illinois Central Railroad. He retired from the Railroad as a Conductor on March 2, 1995. He truly loved the work he did and the Railroad men he worked with were his friends.
He was a lifelong member of Malesus Baptist Church where he was saved at an early age. He was fondly known at Church as “ the chewing gum man “ because his pockets were always full of gum and mints to give away. He was a Mason with the Saint Johns Lodge #332 and a member of the United Transportation Union.
He married Nancy Cheatham Futrrell, who survives him, on September 7 1954. He is also survived by his two daughters, Sandi Barry ( Dean) and Sharon Futrell Smith; grandchildren, Nathan (Renee) Smith, Shelley Smith, Susan (Paul ) Nichols, Serena (Delanie) Calhoun, John Barry, and Kathleen Barry; brother, Billy (Norma) Futrell; sisters, Mary Jane Hearn, Etta (Jimmy) Barnett and Patricia (Larry) Robertson; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents; brother, Bobby Futrell.
Bud Futrell will be missed greatly as a husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He was known by many, loved by all.
Funeral service will held 11 a.m. on Monday, October 17, 2011 at Malesus Baptist Church with burial to follow in Ebenezer Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be held on Sunday, October 16, 2011 from 5 til 8 p.m. at the South Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons and will resume on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of the service at 11 a.m.
