She was born on June 20, 1928 in Memphis, TN to the late Robert and Gladys Thompson James. She married the late John Robert Potts on July 30, 1950 in Corinth, MS. The LANA area that Clara so loved, became their home in 1969. For the next 50 years, Clara made sure that she didn't just "live," but that she "lived well."
She worked at the Hamilton Hills Florist for ten years before she joined the team at RIFA in 1980. Clara retired from the non-profit in 1995 after many years of loyal service. In 1972, she became a proud member of First Baptist Church where she spent 30 years volunteering in their kitchen. The love Clara had for her church family was as inspiring as it was admirable. Baking was a gift that she eagerly shared with others, and her pies earned her recognition within the community.
Clara spent the last few years that she was given fiercely loving her great grandbabies.
Clara is survived by her three children, John Potts of Phoenix, AZ, Cindy Potts DeLoach of Nashville, and Anita Potts Hill of Lexington, KY; as well as five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, as well as two sisters and a brother.
The family will receive friends and loved ones on Monday, May 1, 2023 beginning at 10 a.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. The funeral service will follow at noon with burial in Highland Memorial Gardens.
Clara has requested that any memorials in her memory be directed to First Baptist Church, Jackson.
