

He was born on January 29, 1948 in Memphis, TN, the son of the late Hershell D. Moss, Sr. and Bonnie Floyd Moss. He received a B.F.A. from the University of Memphis in 1972 in Fine Arts and subsequently worked in interior design before starting his full time career as a wildlife artist and sculptor of fine wood carvings, in the Wildlife in Wood Studio located in Casey Jones Village. He won several local and national awards for his work. He was an invited educational exhibitor at the annual Pink Palace Crafts Fair for over forty years. He had a great love of the outdoors and spent much time hunting with friends.
He was a devoted family man and a very active member at Englewood Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. His greatest love was sharing the message of Christ’s sacrifice and gift of salvation to the many people who he came in contact with throughout his life.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Manzo Douglass of Lufkin, Texas.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Arlene F. Moss of Jackson; his twin daughters,Brooke Longley (spouse Jeff Longley and their four children, Aiden, Reese, Jaylon and Hershell Longley) and Kara Huffman (spouse Jeffrey Keith and daughter Angel Huffman).
Private funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2020 at 10 a.m. from the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. While only family may attend, the service will be broadcast on Facebook Live at facebook.com/GeorgeASmithandSons. There will be no visitation.
