Gary was born on May 10, 1951, in Jackson, Tennessee, to the late D.C. and Lillian Mayo Williams. He was a proud lifelong resident of Madison County and spent his life devoted to his family, friends, work, and faith.
Gary dedicated over 30 years of service to the Eli Witt Company. Following its closure, he found a new professional home at Lambuth University, where he developed a deep love for the university community. He continued with the institution through its transition to the University of Memphis, retiring after many fulfilling years. His work was not just a career but a source of pride and joy, as were the many friendships he formed along the way.
Above all, Gary treasured his role as “Papaw” to his four beloved grandchildren. His greatest joys came from time spent with Parker, Halle, Cole, and Maggie, whether cheering them on from the sidelines or simply sharing special moments together. Gary was a friend to many, always welcoming a visit and sharing in laughter and conversation. His warm spirit touched countless lives.
Gary was a devoted Christian and a faithful member of Parkburg Baptist Church, where he found strength, fellowship, and purpose throughout his life.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Patty Isbell Williams, whom he married straight out of high school; his daughters, Lisa Williams Webb (Bryan) and Bobbie Williams Coffman (Matthew); his grandchildren, Parker and Halle Webb and Cole and Maggie Coffman; and his siblings, Carolyn Wells (Elvin), Deborah Chmiel, Vicky Lovelace (Steve), Teresa Williams, Patricia Williams, and Kenneth Williams (Wanda).
Gary was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Michael Williams.
A service celebrating Gary’s life will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Parkburg Baptist Church, with Bro. Danny Rachel officiating. Burial will follow in Parkburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 11:00 a.m., two hours prior to the service.
Pallbearers to serve will be Parker Webb, Cole Coffman, Matthew Coffman, Bryan Webb, Lynn Nanney, and Tony Davis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Gary’s memory to Parkburg Baptist Church or to the charity of your choice.
Gary’s legacy of kindness, hard work, faith, and love for family and friends will be cherished forever.
