James Herman Stanford

Funeral services for Mr. Stanford will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home with Bob Tucker officiating. Interment will follow in Hickory Flatt Cemetery in Cedar Grove, TN with military honors rendered by the United States Navy.

James was born in Cedar Grove, TN on February 10, 1924. He was a WWII Veteran who served proudly on the USS Competent and in the Pacific during WWII. After returning from the war, he married Edith Goff on February 25, 1951. He worked at the Milan Arsenal and later retired from the Defense Depot in Memphis after 38 years of military and government service.

He was also a 32 degree mason and a member of Shriners International in Milan.

Mr. Stanford loved his family, gardening, walking, baseball, and University of Memphis basketball. He will be sadly missed.

Mr. Stanford is survived by his wife, Edith Goff Stanford; son, Stephen and granddaughter, Bailey; daughter, Debbie Hilyard (Larry) and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation with the family of Mr. Stanford will be held on Friday, evening, December 26, 2014 from 5-7 p.m. in the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home.
