He was born on August 18, 1943 in Bells, TN to the late Carl R. and Martha Frances Wood Melson. He was a graduate of North Side High School, class of 1961. He retired Sales Associate for Coca-Cola Bottling Company after 27 years of service. He was currently working at Cody’s Incorporated.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Carl Wood Melson.
He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Melson Byrum of Jackson; grandson, Reece Byrum of Jackson; sister, Evelyn Montgomery (Jerry) of New Port Richey, FL; and a brother, Billy Melson of Memphis.
The family will receive friends and loved ones at a visitation to be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. A graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at Highland Memorial Gardens officiated by Jimmy Sadler.
Active pallbearers to serve will be Reece Byrum, Paul Bond, Mark Jackson, Terry Johnson, Brian Pitchford, and Colton Beasley.
Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Bolton, Pete Bluleu, Butch Stanfill, Ken Luse, and Robert West.
Guests are reminded to refrain from physical contact, be mindful of social distancing, and wear your mask.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
