My deepest condolences to the Spain family.  I had the great pleasure of meeting and working with Joe during my consulting work with Owens Corning.  I left every conversation with Joe with the deep feeling that I had spent time with a true Southern gentleman and someone who openly shared his love of life and his love of his family.  I wish you great comfort in your memories of this life well lived.

Kay and Spain Family, We are your neighbors on Garden Avenue. We were saddened when you moved, but are especially saddened to hear of Joe's passing. He always gave us a smile and a nod when passing on his bike, and we enjoyed our conversations. Our prayers are with you and we will never forget our great neighbors.

Allison and I were sorry to hear of the passing of Joe, he was a wonderful person who helped me early in my career.  Our thoughts are with his family in this difficult time

To the Spain family, I am sorry to hear of your loss.  I had the pleasure of working with Joe in my years at Owens Corning and sharing our conversations over Tennessee football. I will definitely miss "Brother Joe" as a friend and a mentor.

Joe was a father figure to me and role model for us all. He taught alot of us in bible study class as kids at the church and coached our little league football team. He contributed so much to our community, was successful at business, and had great insight on the issues of life. He did all of this with his friendly personality. And what a college football historian! His passion and knowledge was unmatched. I remember he always had his sheet on gameday with the list of all the big games. We need more historians like him, rather than the facepainting casual fan. Rest assured that he is in a much better place now and will have the best view of all the games on Saturdays. God Bless the Spain family.

I worked for Joe with OC and found him to be a very decent human being and fair minded boss. I never heard a bad word from any customer about Joe and he was a supportive boss and human being. He would always leave me a voice mail on my birthday, which happened to be one day prior to his, Oct 4. The world is a better place because of Joe and and his passing will leave a definite void. Thoughts and prayers to Kay and the family.

Knowing Joe through St Timothy, he was a man that both gave and got respect to all in a positive way. Glad I am to have met such an impressive person, happy will be my few memories, but I will lament not having spent more time with such a great man. I will miss Joe.

    you have been the best neighbor and friend to us for 26 years. you were always the life of our parties, and the best speaker of all! there is no doubt in my mind that you are in heaven smiling so brightly as you did here with us. we truly will miss you. thank you for always being a part of our family. you always participated in all occasions in our childrens lives, and i will never forget what it meant to us. we love you, and my heart hurts to think you won't stop by anymore to make us laugh.

Joe was a true man of God.  He was the nicest, gentlest, kindest, fairest and warmest and most loving person I have ever had the pleasure to know and work with.  My heart is aching for the loss of this wonderful man.  Thank you, Lord, for giving us this short time with Joe.  He will be standing at those pearly gates, greeting all who enter, shaking their hands and welcoming them with "We are glad to see you".  I will miss you but will see you again.
