

Funeral Services for Mrs. Mary Jane Gilroy, age 83 of Jackson, will be held on Saturday, March 17 2011 in the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons at 10 a.m., with burial to follow in Ridgecrest Cemetery.
Mrs. Gilroy died peacefully on March 9th, 2012 after a 10 year battle with Alzheimer's.
She was a devoted wife and loving mother, and will be missed greatly by those who knew her. Mrs. Gilroy was born in Staten Island, NY on April 17, 1928. She was the daughter of Leonard Tissell Jones (CAPT, USCG, Ret.) and Francis Calhoun Collins. She briefly attended Barnard College/Columbia University, but did not complete her college degree until she returned to school as an adult, and graduated from Camden College/Rutgers University in 1978 at age 50. She married Robert J. Gilroy (Lt.Col, USA, Ret.) October 15, 1949 and was married for 52 years until the time of his death February 2, 2002. She served her country as an "Army wife," accompanying him everywhere but Korea and Vietnam.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, James Thomas Gilroy.
She is survived by her son, Robert J. Gilroy, Jr., M.D. and her daughter-in-law, Carol Shannon Craig Gilroy, M.D. She is also survived by her grandchildren that she loved so dearly, Connor Craig Gilroy and Colleen MacKenzie Gilroy, as well as her half-sister, Patricia J. Hakes, Safety Harbor, FL.
A visitation with the family will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2011 in the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons, from 9 a.m. until the service time at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Christian Girls Home of Moron Haiti, c/o St. Mary's Catholic Church or to a charity of the donor's choice .
