Mary Kathleen Haggard McCommon

Funeral services for Mary Kathleen Haggard McCommon will be held on Friday, April 26, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the South Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons with Pastor Robert McBroom officiating. Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery.

Kathleen, age 90, died on April 23, 2013 after a brief illness. She was born on September 26, 1922. She was one of four sons and three daughters, all deceased, of the late Don Golie and Willie Vesta England Haggard. She was born in Sardis, Tennessee but grew up in Bemis, Tennessee, where she graduated from J.B. Young High School in 1940. That same year, she married William Bailey McCommon, Sr. They enjoyed a long and happy life together until his death in 2001.

Throughout most of her adult life, Kathleen was a devoted member of Madison Baptist Church where she served many years as the church pianist, choir member, Sunday school teacher, and librarian.

Kathleen is survived by her children, Sandra Kathleen Rushing (Allen) of Bristol, TN; Mary Evelyn “Mamie” Lassiter (Sebron) of Jackson, TN; Wiliam Bailey McCommon, Jr. (Patricia) of Jackson, TN; three grandchildren, Leanne Warren of Jackson, TN; Christopher Lassiter (Rhonda) of Memphis, TN; Timothy Rushing of Knoxville, TN; one step grandson, Wade Smith; five great grandchildren, Martin McDaniel, Kayla and Sarah Lassiter, and Will and Aaron Warren; two great great grandchildren; and a stepbrother, W.S. Holland and a stepsister, Mabel Freeman.

Visitation will be held in the South Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons on Thursday, April 25, 2013 from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Madison Baptist Church, 930 Steam Mill Ferry Road, Jackson, Tennessee 38301.
