

Thomas David "Tom" Murray, age 63 of Jackson, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Tom was born in Jackson, the son of the late Carole Buehler Hammer, and Roger and Judy Murray. Funeral Services will be conducted on Monday, March 9, 2015 at 1 p.m., at Woodland Baptist Church, with Bros. Len Kennedy and Maurice Hays officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.Tom attended Columbia Military Academy and graduated from Jackson High School. He received his BA from the University of the South at Sewanee and his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Memphis State University. He worked in private practice for many years and later worked for the Department of Labor where he was an expert in workers compensation law.He served in the Tennessee Army National Guard and in the US Army Reserves where he was a Second Lieutenant in the Military Police. He was a member of Woodland Baptist Church, loved his friends at the gym and enjoyed hard workouts. Tom was a championship boxer, and fought in the 1971 National Golden Gloves of America Championship in Las Vegas, NV. He was also a Mid-South boxing Champion, losing only one fight in his career.Other than his mother, he was preceded in death by his sister, Rachel Hammer. He dearly loved his grandmother, Elizabeth "Boots" Buehler and his grandfather, Roger Murray, Sr. He was a great nephew to the late Congressman, Tom Murray and former district attorney, David Murray.Tom also loved and respected his mother and father-in-law, Martha and Gordon Parkinson.He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Janice Parkinson Murray; his father, Roger Murray and wife Judy; sisters, Luanne Story and husband Jimmy of Franklin, TN, Melissa Bloemer and husband Bernie of Nashville; brothers, Roger Murray III and wife Kelly of Jackson, and William J. Murray of Destin, FL; two special aunts and uncles, Mona and Jerry Ward, and Art and Mary Buehler; also many nieces and nephews.A visitation with the family will be held Monday, March 9, 2015 at Woodland Baptist Church beginning at 11 a.m. until the funeral hour at 1 p.m.Memorial contributions in Tom's memory may be directed to Woodland Baptist Church, 365 Wallace Road, Jackson, TN 38305 or Birth Choice, 391 Wallace Road, Jackson, TN 38305.The family wishes to thank the nurses and doctors who cared for Tom at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
