

A celebration of life for William Donald Kirk, age 86, will be held at 11 am at the North chapel of George A. Smith and Sons on Thursday, February 1st. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5 to 8 as well as 1 hour prior to the service on Thursday. He passed away peacefully at home with his family.
He was born on August 9th, 1931 to the late William Earnest Kirk and Annie Oakley Kirk. He graduated from Medina High School in 1948 and received his B.S. in History from Bethel College. He was a sergeant in the US Army and served for 2 years in Korea. He began his career working for The National Cash Register Company in West Tennessee which lead to his work with Roadbuilders Equipment Company in Memphis where he worked for 25 years. He maintained his own business in Bolivar and later in Jackson. He loved meeting people and ended up selling equipment in 13 states as well as Canada and Mexico. He was a lifelong Methodist and attended St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church and Forest Heights United Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Louise Laster Kirk and granddaughter, Morgan Leah McCarty. He is survived by three daughters, Pam McCarty (Mike) and Donna Gollihugh (Tracy) of Jackson, TN and Kandy Mallory (Chuck) of Lebanon, TN. He has five grandchildren, April Gollihugh, Kirk McCarty (Erica), John Gollihugh (Bonna), and Maggie and Annie Mallory, and one great-granddaughter, Eleanore Morgan McCarty. Also, surviving is his sister, Patricia Watkins (Phillip), sister-in-law Peggy Austin, and brother-in-law, Bob Laster (Glenda).
