Leroy Pittman, 89, went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 13, 2019. He passed away peacefully at home. He was born January 6, 1930 to Talmadge and Lois Pittman in Laurens County, GA. He met his wife of 62 years, Mitzi Canuette in Vidalia, Georgia in November, 1956 and they were married January 12, 1957. They lived in Atlanta, GA before moving to Jacksonville in 1963.
Leroy, “Butter Bean” Pittman was a transport driver for over 38 years and was most recently employed by Commercial Carriers from where retired in 1992. Growing up in rural Georgia, Leroy had a love for animals, working in the yard, and windmills. He grew fruit trees, pecan trees and a variety of vegetables. He had dogs, cats, chickens and rabbits. In his older years, he loved to sit in his chair picking the weeds to keep his garden clean. He loved the Lord, his family, and classic country music. He also drove the church bus for University Baptist Church for many years.
Leroy was predeceased by his parents Talmadge and Lois Pittman, his brothers Edgar and Gene Pittman, baby sisters Evelyn, Aline and an unnamed baby girl Pittman, granddaughter Jennifer Pittman and grandson Patrick Pittman. He is survived by his wife, Mitzi Pittman, sons Leroy Jr. (Michelle), Tim (Connie), Johnny (Cindy), daughters Suzanne Doyle and Sheila Sams, 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, brother Elton (Mary Jane), sister Lorene Salter (Revis) and sister-in-law Martha (Gene).
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Septmber 19, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hardage-Giddens Greenlawn Funeral Home 4300 Beach Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32207.
His committal service will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery immediately after the funeral.
