Shirley Anne Young Henry, age 91, passed away peacefully at her home in Jacksonville on September 12, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Washington, Pennsylvania, Shirley was a graduate of Trinity High School, and worked at Bell Telephone in Washington. She was a smart, talented, and artistic wife and mother, and she created a series of wonderful homes that she shared with her husband Richard, as they relocated and relocated and relocated for the railroad for seventy-one years. She volunteered in hospital fund raising as treasurer, and opened her door and her life to many beloved pets. Shirley was a loving and devoted wife to her husband, and an amazing mother and grandmother to her two daughters, her son-in-law, her grandson and his wife. She delighted family and friends with her sense of humor, as well as her artistry in drawing, painting and creating personal greeting cards. She was unafraid to tackle new challenges, handled finances like a pro, and was beloved by all for her sweet, kind, friendly and fun disposition.
She is survived by her cherished husband, Richard "Dick" Henry; beloved daughters Louanne Frederickson and Ellen Jeanne Conway; son-in-law, Steve Conway; grandson, Ricky Conway and his wife Taylyn Conway, as well as her close extended family, including her many loved nieces and nephews, her brother in law and sister in law.
Her family offers sincere and heartfelt thanks and love to the caregivers who made it possible for Shirley to live out her life with independence and dignity at home, including Kristal Langley, Jewell Knight, Shay Merrell, Tiffany Jackson, Tiffany Williams, and Ka'Mya Roberts, as well as the Community Hospice staff. Their loving kindness and friendship helped her in her courageous fight, and truly enhanced the quality of her life and ours.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, September 20 at 4pm at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home Mandarin, 11801 San Jose Boulevard in Jacksonville. A graveside service for her family will be held at Washington Cemetery in Pennsylvania at a later date. In lieu of flowers, her family requests contributions to the Jacksonville Humane Society or Parkinson’s research.
