Camelle D. Decker

Camelle was born March 19, 1943, in Wilmington, North Carolina to Lorraine and Homer J Dunnmon. She graduated in 1961 from Terry Parker High School in Jacksonville, FL and went on to attend the University of Florida where she earned a bachelor’s degree in education. She later earned a master’s degree in education from the University of North Florida. Camelle worked for Duval County Public Schools for 30+ years, first as a classroom teacher and then an admissions and placement specialist for exceptional student education, retiring in 2006.

Camelle enjoyed traveling throughout her life and loved to talk about all the places she had visited. When she wasn’t discovering new destinations, she enjoyed spending time with her family, cheering on the Florida Gators and watching NASCAR racing. She was active in her church and loved being a member of the bell choir at St. Marks Lutheran. She was also a contributing member of the Alpha Theta chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa (A∆K), an International Honorary Organization for Women Educators.

Camelle is predeceased by her parents, Homer J Dunnmon and Lorraine Daniel Dunnmon as well as her husband, Glenn A. Decker. She is survived by her brother, David Dunnmon (Stephania), her sons, Douglas Decker (Samantha) and Eric Decker (Missy), and her grandchildren, Emma Decker, and Danielle Decker. Camelle is also survived by her niece Kelly Dunnmon Matt (Quinn), nephew Michael Dunnmon (Beth) and multiple great nephews and a great niece.

There will be a memorial service on Sunday, September 12, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church located at 3976 Hendricks Ave, Jacksonville, FL 32207.
