Carmel moved to Jacksonville in 1959 to start a new life and prepare a home for his beloved wife Emogene. Starting as an electrician's helper earning $1.25 an hour, he eventually worked to become co-owner and President of Allstate Electrical Contractors, Inc. and was dedicated to his trade, doing everything in his power to help others in the field. His business partner of 60 years is Mr. James L. Williams. Carmel was known as the “Godfather of Apprenticeship” for starting the first non-union Apprenticeship program in Florida. He was a great supporter and friend of NEFBA, and was a life Director of the FHBA. He was very proud to receive the Pillar of the Industry Award.
No matter where Carmel went, someone was sure to know him--if not, he was sure to make a new friend. Many of Carmel’s friends considered themselves family, just as he thought of them. Everyone has a favorite memory of him, and the past few days have brought many smiles and tears hearing the many heartfelt wishes and stories. He was larger than life and never met a stranger. His smile will be remembered and missed by countless people. While we could list hundreds of names, we would be remiss if we did not mention Carmel’s dear friend, Ray Nasrallah who passed away in 2021, and Squire Parsons who has been a beloved friend and confidante to Carmel and our family. Carmel was an avid fan of the West Virginia Mountaineers.
Carmel was predeceased by his mother and father, Ruby and Williard Morris of Clay, WV. He is survived by his devoted wife of almost 63 years, Emogene Morris, his two daughters, Debbie Haskin (Bryan), and Melody Morris. Carmel was very proud of his three grandchildren, Brittany Fedewa (Nick), Joshua Barrs (Amber) and Caleb Barrs. His four great-grandchildren,
Asher Fedewa, Hayden Barrs, Nolan Barrs and Malayna Barrs were his “Pride and Joy." To his family, he was the pillar on which our foundation was built. Carmel has two brothers, Jimmy Morris (Reva) of Clay, WV and Herb Morris of Jacksonville.
To honor the amazing life of Carmel Morris, visitation will be held Monday, March 7th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at The Legacy Lodge, with funeral services Tuesday, March 8th at 2:00 pm at The Legacy Lodge. There will be a family only internment at the family mausoleum. All services will be held at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn, 4801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL.
