Carolyn departed her wonderful life, peacefully, on August 19, 2019. She was born June 5, 1921 to Mark and Freddie Grace (Hayes) Isaacs. She was the second of three daughters and the sister to four half-siblings. She was a devoted wife and a proud mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt and a great friend to many.
Carolyn was a charter member of the Lakewood United Methodist Church and the Lakewood - San Jose Volunteer fire department (now Station 21) where she was very active in the women’s auxiliary. She and Hilton were also members of the Allemandarin Square Dancing Club where they travelled for exhibition dances and conventions throughout the southeast including Disney World. She loved ceramics and was an avid china painter. She was also very supportive of her children in the PTA where she was homeroom mother for all three children at the same time. She also served as the assistant leader in the Campfire Girl organization. Carolyn will be truely missed by all who knew her and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Hilton E. Lay and her son, Philip Henry Lay, her sisters, Louise Isaacs Langston, Margaret Isaacs Mead, and Malvena Black Kendrick; and three brothers, Richard Whitman Black, Don Dean Black and Robert Bruce Black. She is survived by her daughter, Constance L “Connie” Hicks of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, her son, Mark Hilton Lay of the home, her grandchildren, Stephen Lewis Hicks, Jr (Jen) of Winter Garden, FL, Christopher Donald Hicks (Sommer) of St. Petersburg Beach, FL, Christina Nicole Lay and Philip “PJ” Lay, of Jacksonville, FL, seven great grandchildren; Tristan, Kari, Payten, Ryder, Kayla, Kylie and Colton and many nieces and nephews.
