It is with love and gratitude that we remember the life of Carolyn “Cackey” Tyson, born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. A proud graduate of Andrew Jackson High School, she was an active member of the Business Club and Library Club, where her love for learning and organization began. Cackey passed on that passion to her greatest joy, her daughter, Elizabeth, who was at the very center of her world. Everything she did, she did for Elizabeth, pouring her heart and soul into being the most loving and supportive mom anyone could hope for.
Born into a lively family as one of five children, Cackey grew up surrounded by love, laughter, and a deep sense of togetherness. Her bond with her siblings only grew stronger over the years, with some of her fondest moments spent antiquing with her sisters, sharing stories, and finding hidden treasures.
She built a remarkable 37-year career at Prudential, where her dedication and kindness earned her respect and lifelong friendships.
She was a devoted wife to her one true love, David, a lieutenant with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and a fellow Andrew Jackson High alum. Together, they shared a life filled with love, laughter, and Saturdays cheering for their Florida Gators. David predeceased her in 1988, and while we miss them both dearly, we take comfort knowing they are reunited, likely holding hands, laughing, and still debating their favorite Gator plays and moments from the 1980s.
Cackey’s passions were many, but her love for animals stood out. Whether it was a family pet or a stray that wandered into her yard, she had a special way with creatures great and small. She also adored anything English—from the royal family to cozy tea sets—and took immense joy in sharing those interests with the people she loved.
As a mother, she was extraordinary. She was not only Elizabeth’s biggest cheerleader but also the best volleyball team mom anyone could ask for. She made personalized bags of trail mix for each player—extra M&Ms here, no raisins there—because making others feel special was her superpower.
Her warmth, humor, and kindness touched everyone she met. Whether through a thoughtful gesture or simply the way she listened, she made life brighter for all who knew her.
She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of care, joy, and love lives on in the hearts of her family and friends.
A graveside service for Carolyn will be held Tuesday, December 31, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel & Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207.
