

Catherine Wolz Delegal, 101 years old, of Fernandina Beach, died March 12, 2015 at Community Hospice, Jane & Bill Warner Center for Caring. She was born July 20, 1913, in Eustis, Florida, daughter of Frank G. and Pearl Wolz. She grew up in Gainesville and graduated from Gainesville High School.
She was a retired teacher with a Bachelor of Education Degree from the University of Florida and a Master of Arts in Education Degree from Jacksonville University. She taught school in Suwannee County before moving to Jacksonville in 1954, where she taught first and second grade at Hendricks Avenue Elementary School for 19 years before retiring in 1972. She was a member of Southside United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Al Delegal, who assisted in the formulating of the Florida Community College of Jacksonville.
Her family includes a daughter, Jean Delegal Harnage (Gary-deceased), of Fernandina Beach; two sons, Thomas A. Delegal-deceased (Donna), of Jacksonville, and Stephen P. Delegal (Pam), of Jacksonville; nine grandchildren: Elizabeth Quirk (David), Vicki Whittemore (Tom), Tad Delegal (Julie), Nicole Brady (Steve), Monique Miller (David), Latrelle Morris (Bob), Hickory Delegal (Shannon), Whitney Bell (J.B.), Ashley Trupp (Ryan), and by sixteen great grandchildren; and a sister, Edith Wolz Bridges, of Jacksonville. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Galen Wolz of Waycross, Ga; Johnny Wolz (Lucille) of Odessa, Tx; and Billy Wolz (Mary Nell), of Gainesville, FL.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Funeral services will be held at Southside United Methodist Church on Monday, March 16, 2015 at ten o’clock in the morning followed with interment at Oaklawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service at the church. HARDAGE-GIDDENS, THE OAKLAWN CHAPEL, 4801 San Jose Boulevard is serving the family.
