Cathy Ann Gwynes

Cathy Ann Gwynes, 67, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026. Born in Pensacola, Florida, she was the beloved daughter of the late Ralph and Wilma “Dolly” Hook.

Cathy dedicated many years of service to Duval County Public Schools and retired as the bookkeeper at Woodland Acres Elementary. She was known as a dependable coworker and a kind, caring presence.

A devoted wife, mother, and animal lover, Cathy centered her life around her family. Her children were the heart of her world, and she supported them with unwavering love, guidance, and pride. She took great joy in their accomplishments and found her greatest fulfillment in simply being present for them—offering encouragement, warmth, and a steady hand whenever it was needed. She was also a proud Nana to her “grand dogs,” whom she adored and lovingly cared for whenever she could.

Cathy had a lifelong love for Bruce Springsteen. Whether attending his concerts, reading books about him, or watching documentaries and specials, his music brought her tremendous joy.

She is survived by her children, daughter Jennifer Eavenson (Mike) and son Johnny Gwynes III (Anthony). Cathy’s warmth, dedication, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Cathy’s loving memory to Northeast Florida Community Hospice, in gratitude for their compassion and care. A private service will be held to honor Cathy’s life.
