

Charles Thomas (Tom) Tinsley, III, son of the late Charles Thomas Tinsley, Jr. and Mrs. Harriett Crawford Tinsley, passed away on September 5, 2022 at the age of 70. Born in Jacksonville, Florida, Tom grew up in Atlantic Beach and always enjoyed the serenity and pace of beach life.
While attending Fletcher High School and later The Bolles School, Tom excelled in soccer, football, and baseball. Tom was selected in the Major League Baseball draft as a high school senior but decided to accept a baseball scholarship to Florida State University. Tom was both a proud member of the Kappa Alpha Order and an ardent supporter of Florida State Athletics for nearly 50 years. In the 1980s, Tom and other local boosters started the Jacksonville Seminole Booster Club and assisted in scouting the Jacksonville area for Bobby Bowden. Edgar Bennett and Leroy Butler were two of the more talented young men that Tom encouraged to attend Florida State.
Professionally, Tom joined his father’s business, Florida Rubber & Supply Company, shortly after college and led it for nearly 25 years as President upon his father’s passing. During his retirement, Tom gained immense joy volunteering with Daniel Kids for which he received the 2016 Volunteer of the Year Award from HandsOn Jacksonville. When he wasn’t volunteering, Tom enjoyed reading about military history and The Civil War, watching John Wayne westerns, and listening to Jimmy Buffett.
Tom is survived by his son, Charles Thomas “Chip” Tinsley, IV (Katie) of Atlanta, Georgia; his daughter Allison Tinsley Smith (Brendon) of Tampa, Florida; three grandchildren Davis, Mae, and Emma Kate of Atlanta, Georgia; and his sister Jacquelyn “Jackie” Tinsley of Jacksonville.
Memorial services will be held at 10 am Saturday, September 17 in the chapel of Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd Jacksonville, Florida 32211. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends from 9 am until 10 am at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Daniel Kids Foundation via DanielKids.org or mailed to 4203 Southpoint Blvd, Jacksonville, Florida 32216 by noting the donation is in Tom’s memory.
