It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Daniel “Dan” Boller, 60, a devoted husband, loving father, and genuine friend to everyone he met. He passed peacefully, surrounded by family, on Thursday, March 20, 2025 after a short, but fierce, battle with esophageal cancer.
Dan was a kind man, doting husband, loving son, dependable brother, supportive father, loyal friend, and all-around good human being. You might not guess based on his tough exterior, but he was quite gentle and sensitive. He embodied one of his favorite songs “Humble and Kind” by Tim McGraw. Dan had a deep compassion for others and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He showed a genuine interest in getting to know everyone he crossed paths with. He was a skilled craftsman across a wide variety of disciplines, from carpentry to welding and everything in between. He always had a project going (or 10). He never backed down from a challenging task and had a unique ability to learn any new skills needed to see it through. He loved being in the mountains, skiing double black diamonds, working on classic cars, and listening to some good rock and roll. If he wasn’t tinkering in the garage, you could find him at the pool hall. He was a phenomenal pool player and won many tournaments over the years. Dan was well-loved by everyone at his favorite bars and was known to buy a round or two of drinks for the whole bar. People gravitated to him because of his positive energy and sense of humor. Above all, Dan was a family man. He adored his parents, his siblings, his wife, his children, and especially his grandchildren. Some even called him the “baby whisperer” because he was able to soothe a fussy baby when no one else could. He cared deeply for his loved ones, and always went above and beyond to make sure that everyone was taken care of.
Dan was born in Hays, KS in 1964 to parents Robert Alan Boller and Diana Kay Finch. He spent his early childhood years traveling with his parents and four siblings around South America for his father’s career with the U.S. government. Upon their return to the states, they settled into life in the mountains of Missoula, Montana, where Dan attended Hellgate High School. At 18, he briefly enlisted in the U.S. Army, but took a voluntary discharge when his first son, Joshua Michael Boller, was born in May 1983. After spending some time in various places in the Northwest, he eventually settled in sunny Pompano Beach, Florida, where he met the woman who would become the love of his life, Lisa Paige Hutchings, in 1986. They married on February 25, 1989 and welcomed two children together, Danielle Nicole Boller in September 1989 and Christian Ryan Boller in September 1991. Nothing in life brought him as much joy as being a father, except perhaps being a grandfather. He became a “Papa” in August 2003 with the birth of his grandson, Joshua Michael Boller Jr., and again in February 2017 with the birth of his granddaughter, Claire Audrey Simone. He began his career with Ecolo in the mid-1990’s and he continued with the company until his retirement in 2019. He and Lisa then moved to Jacksonville, FL to be closer to their children and grandchildren. He spent his most recent years renovating and developing a 2.5 acre plot of land colloquially known as “The Property”. While he hoped to be around to enjoy it for many more years, he took great pride in knowing he was creating a safe haven and gathering place for his family. His legacy will be seen and felt there for many future generations.
He is survived by his beloved wife Lisa Boller, daughter Danielle Simone (Matt), son Christian Boller (Bailey), grandson Joshua Boller, Jr., granddaughter Claire Simone, mother Diana Benk (Michael), stepmother Audrey Boller, four siblings Shawn Boller (Deanna), Dawn Boller, Christina Huxman, Cristopher Boller, cherished cat Sammy, as well as numerous dear cousins, nieces, nephews, family members, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Robert “Bob” Boller and his son Joshua Boller Sr. Dan’s family takes great comfort in knowing he is reunited with his son, whom he missed dearly.
A Celebration of Life for Dan will be held in Jacksonville, FL at some point in the months to come. His final resting place will be beside his father in Missoula, MT. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the memorial garden his family will be creating at “The Property” to honor Dan’s life and legacy.
