

Daniel R. Hackel, 75, passed away on March 10, 2012. Mr. Hackel was born on March 10th, 1937 in Jacksonville, FL to Montague (Buck) Rosenberg and Esther Hackel. He obtained his BA degree from the University of Florida, Phi Beta Kappa, and his MS degree in Journalism from Columbia University, New York, with Honors. Over a 50-year media career, he was employed by ABC News, N.Y./Washington as a White House Correspondent; as Press Secretary for Hubert H. Humphrey's presidential campaign; as founding Anchor at CNN Headline News & CNN International; and in later years, became Chair of the School of Film & Video at Miami-Dade College, FL. Prior to his death he continued working as a foreign correspondent on nationally syndicated US radio, based out of Tel Aviv, Israel, a country he loved dearly. Mr. Hackel is survived by his first wife, Ritva Oksanen, and their two children, Kristiina and Joseph; and by his former wife and three sons from his second marriage -- Ron, Gil, and Leor (married to daughter-in-law Ruthie) -- to Dr. Armona Livneh.
A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00pm TODAY, Monday, March 12th in Old Center, (Evergreen) Cemetery, Gate 5, 4535 N Main St, Jacksonville, FL with Rabbi Jesse Olitzki as Officiant.
