

David Smolder, 53, passed away on May 12, 2010. He was born on November 20, 1956 in Charleston, WV. He moved to Jacksonville in 1959. David started working at the Jacksonville Port Authority mowing the grass in 1974. At the time of his passing, he had moved through the ranks to become the Director of Project Management for Engineering. He had been at the port for 36 years. His boss joked with him by saying that there wasn’t a job at the port that David had not had. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, son, brother and grandfather to all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his father, Clifford Smolder. He is survived by his wife of 28 beautiful years, Conni; mother, Janice Smolder-Moody (Dave); son, David “Andy” Smolder (JJ); daughters, Chrissy Hall (James), Lauren Butacan ( Jacob) and Rachael Smolder (Brian);niece, Tonya Dettmann (Thom); brothers, Buddy Smolder (Cindy) and Allen Moody (Kelly); sisters, Diane Smolder and Stephanie Ball (Steve); mother-in-law, Mrs. M. E. Isenberg; 4 grandchildren, Connor, Bruce, Gracie and Deuce. The family will receive friends for a visitation from 6-8 pm, Monday, May 17, 2010 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at Oak Crest United Methodist Church, 5900 Ricker Rd., with Rev. Jerry Carris officiating. Private interment service to follow.
