Demetrios E. Lagoutaris, MD passed away peacefully on November 28, 2018 in Saint Augustine, Florida at the age of 91. He was born in Alexandria, Egypt on April 10, 1927, the youngest of three children. He was a graduate of the University of Athens Medical College in Athens, Greece. He emigrated to the United States and married Helen Mastorides on June 5, 1965. Together they had three sons whom they dedicated their lives to. He was an extraordinary physician and pledged his life to helping other people. A life long lover of the Scouting movement Demetrios was active as a Boy Scout in Alexandria and participated as an adult leader with Troop 111 in Campbell and Troup 101 in Struthers. He was an avid lover of classical music and opera and enjoyed discussing history and philosophy. He spoke 7 languages and instilled in his children a lifelong love of learning.
He is proceeded in death by his wife Helen to whom he was married for 50 years. He is survived by his sons Stratis (Jeanne), Manuel (Maria) and John (Staci) as well as 9 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Demetrios will be remembered as a loving husband and father, dedicated physician and lover of animals.
Funeral services will begin at 10 am at Saint John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church in Jacksonville, Florida. Donations to the Saint John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church Building Fund in lieu of flowers would be appreciated.
