Donald A. Volk, 85, of Jacksonville, FL passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Community Hospice. He was born on January 18, 1936 in St. Louis, MO to the late Otto and Mary (Klug) Volk. On August 25, 1962, he married Sharon K. Huber at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Columbus Grove, OH.
Don loved his family. He is survived by his lovely wife, Sharon Volk of Jacksonville, son David Volk of Findlay,OH; daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie & Greg Snider of Fort Wayne, IN; his cherished grandchildren, Jacklyn (Tyler) Morrison and great-granddaughter (on the way), and Elijah Volk all of Clarksville, TN, Steven Snider and Matthew Snider of Fort Wayne, IN, and Brian Snider of St. Petersburg, FL. He is also survived by his in-laws, MaryAnn Volk and Marilyn Volk of St. Louis, MO, Nancy (Marty) Williams of Columbus, OH, James (Judy) Huber of Erie, CO, Jill (Brett) Smith of Prairieville, LA, Denny Huber of Bluffton, OH and Denisue Wood of Marian, OH, as well as many nieces and nephews, whom he loved to take on adventures. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth and Robert (Bo) Volk.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jacksonville, where he was active as a greeter and an usher. He was a member of Holy Family Men’s Club and enjoyed playing cards with the men. He worked for CSX Railroad for over 40 years. Don was a proud Army Veteran, as a communication specialist where he learned the morse code. He enjoyed watching and following the St. Louis Cardinals and the Ottawa-Glandorf Titans, and enjoyed sports from the little league with his son to watching his grandsons in football, baseball and tennis. The daily newspaper crossword puzzles were his morning ritual. Don was a kind and friendly soul, and he never met a stranger. His “dad jokes” were enjoyed by many, family, friends and everyone he met. He greeted everyone on his daily walks through the neighborhood, and will be greatly missed, but we know we will be together again.
A memorial service will be held for Donald on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at 1:00pm at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn, 4801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207.
