
Eduardo Jose Morales, a devout Catholic, entered the House of Our Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, January 26th. He passed away peacefully at his home in Jacksonville, Florida. He was 85 years old. Eduardo was born in Havana, Cuba in 1939 to Ricardo Morales Zaldo and Maria Falicia Morales Arozarena.
Eduardo graduated from Belen Jesuit School. Due to the political turmoil in his home country, he went to the United States to attend Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. After receiving a bachelors degree in Engineering, he returned to Cuba to reunite with his childhood sweetheart Georgina Ariet. Because of the continued unrest in the country, he left Cuba to pursue his Masters Degree in Civil Engineering at The University of Florida. Georgina joined him and they were married on February 1st, 1961 in Gainesville, Florida. After Graduation, they moved to Middletown, Ohio to begin his career in Civil Engineering. In 1962, his father, Ricardo moved to Jacksonville, Florida and started to reunite his family in his adopted country. Eduardo moved to Jacksonville to accept a position with Register and Cummings Engineering Firm. He met his future business partner, Bob Shumer, and together they formed Morales and Shumer Engineers in 1974. The company was known for the first major renovation of the Gator Bowl, the Vilano Bridge, and many other projects in Jacksonville and around the world.
Eduardo is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Georgina, his 4 children, Ed (Valerie), Gigi, Bob (Maureen), and Lili (Jon), his 9 grandchildren Kimberly (Eshan), Matthew (Kayla), Andrew (Audrey), Brooke, Julia (Ryan), Danielle, Michael, Amanda, and Christopher and his 3 great grandchildren Lucy, Oliver, and Charlie.
A visitation and Rosary will be held on Monday, February 3rd at Oaklawn Legacy Lodge at 5:30 in the evening, and a Mass will be celebrated at San Juan Del Rio Catholic Church in Switzerland, Florida on Tuesday, February 4th at 11am. A reception following at the parish hall.
