Edward Daniel Lynch, 86, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2024.
Edward, also known as Eddie or Ed, was born in Jacksonville on April 24, 1937, to Lois Elaine and Aubrey Francis Lynch. He graduated from Technical High School and, after serving in the Air National Guard and working briefly for the United States Post Office, took a job at Jacksonville Paint Company and, later, Mary Carter Paint Company. There, he met his first love, Judith (Judy) Stuver, to whom he was married for 47 years until her death in 2005. They had four beloved children: Scott, Kipp, Todd, and Amy. The family made its first home in Beach Haven and its second on the Southside, where they lived for 40 years. When his boys were young, Edward worked in paint sales, started contracting work part-time, and soon launched a house painting business he would run for more than 20 years, often with Scott by his side. He concluded his career as a respected member of the University of North Florida’s maintenance department, where he spent his days beautifying the campus. Among other projects, he helped repair and rebuild the UNF Nature Trail and was proud of his contributions to its preservation. He fell in love with Mary Johnson in 2007; the sweethearts married on Valentine’s Day 2009 and lived together with his sister in his late parents’ home until his death.
Mr. Lynch was preceded in death by his parents, Lois and Aubrey; first wife, Judy; son, Kipp; and granddaughter, Brittany. He is survived by his second wife, Mary; sister, Deborah (Debbie); brother, Larry; children, Scott, Todd, and Amy; their spouses, Cheryl, Nicole, and Branislav; four grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and four great-grandchildren. His gentle spirit, open mind, deep integrity, and easy laugh were admired by all who met him. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, warmth, and love.
A memorial service celebrating Edward’s life will be held Thursday, March 28 at 11:00 at Faith Community Methodist Church, where he was a member for more than 50 years. Flowers may be sent in his memory to the sanctuary at 4000 Spring Park Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32207.
