Edward joined the U.S. Air Force in 1954 as a Radar Technician, and later retired from UPS after 18 years. He was an original member of "The Blue Room" club in Brooklyn, New York. He enjoyed reading historical books and spending time with friends and family.
He is predeceased by his parents, Edward J. Schaefer, his mother Katherine Hanley, stepfather Charles Hanley, and his brother Kenneth Schaefer, all from Brooklyn, New York. Edward is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Joan, a daughter Karen Palermo (Joseph), grandchildren Kandice Lennon (Jason), Chris Schaefer, Joey Palermo, great grandchildren Taylen, Colton and Blake Lennon. Brothers, Charlie and Tim Hanley, and Sister Kathy Hanley.
