Edward Christ Sigl, age 95, passed away peacefully July 16,2025. Eddie was born June 7, 1930, in Gladstone, North Dakota to Joseph and Anna Sigl. Edward was the last surviving member of nine children. He was raised on the family farm in a small German community where he worked in the wheat fields, alongside his Father. He received his early education at a small schoolhouse out on the prairie. While his formative years were spent on the farm working the fields and tending to the animals, his family would eventually move to Dickinson and begin their transition to city life where he got his first job at Kings Supermarket. Eddie’s high school years were spent playing saxophone in the high school band, playing football, and teaching himself how to play drums. Eddie graduated from Dickinson High School in 1950.
In 1947, while still in high school, Eddie served as a member of Company K, 164th Infantry, North Dakota National Guard leaving in 1950 at the rank of Sergeant to join the United States Air Force. He was a Military Policeman while in the Air Force and was attached to the 6351st Air Police Squadron achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was honorably discharged in 1954. His medals include the Korean Service Medal, UN Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Service Medal.
Upon leaving the military, Eddie attended school at Dickinson State College. After deciding to pursue a life in music, he began playing drums and singing with several bands. Settling in as a member of the Larry Mack Trio, he would travel the Midwest, playing Chicago and various other Cities and towns along the way. This road would lead him to Jacksonville, Florida in 1959, where the band was a mainstay at the Thunderbird hotel for several years. He decided that Jacksonville would be where he would plant his roots. He spent the remainder of his music years playing with the Eddie Clark Trio. Concurrently, he began working for the City of Jacksonville and the JEA where he would retire after 31 years of service.
Eddie was a devout Catholic, an active member of the church, and attended services at Christ the King Parish. He was a member of The Knights of Columbus, Legion of Mary, and felt blessed to have been a Eucharistic Minister. He was a good and honorable man, devoted husband, and Father. He is survived by his loving wife (Karen) of 60 years, three children (Pamela, Michael, Matthew), a Granddaughter (Claire), numerous nieces and nephews, and loving friends.
