Elizabeth Alvarez Bowes

Elizabeth (Liz) Alvarez Bowes, age 88, died in Jacksonville, Florida on January 1, 2018. She was born in Rome, Georgia to Charles David Alvarez, Sr. and the former Jane Maxine Redden on December 8, 1929. Liz lived a full and rich life, centered around her family. She loved to travel and enjoyed planning her trips almost as much as taking them. She also had a fun and rewarding career as a personnel manager for Ivey’s, later Dillard’s.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Stephen Mallory Bowes, Jr.; five children, Stephen M. Bowes III (Arlene), Margaret Thoeni (Drew), Jennifer Johnson (Terry), Martha Wright (Robert), and Carolyn Bowes; her twelve grandchildren; her sister, Nancy Alvarez Rebenack; and brother, Charles D. Alvarez, Jr., and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Jane A. Alvarez.

A visitation will be held on January 5th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL followed by a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. The funeral will be held on January 6th at 10:00 a.m. at Resurrection Catholic Church, 3383 University Blvd N., Jacksonville, Florida with burial at Evergreen Cemetery.
