

POWELL Ella Vanderford, 83, passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 6, 1929, Ella was preceded in death by her parents, C. Hurley and Carrie S. Vanderford; brother, Raymond Vanderford (Rosalie); sister, Mable (“Auntie”) Vanderford; and son-in-law, Richard S. Peters. A graduate of Petersburg Virgina Nursing School, Ella was the Nurse/Office manager for the Nemours Pediatric Surgeons for forty years. She loved “her doctors” and the children that came through their care. Cherished in life by her family, friends and business associates, Ella was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, grandmother (MeMaw to some, MeMe to others), and loving friend. Ella is survived by her children, Rebecca Peters, Stephen Powell, Susan (David) Nolan; grandchildren Christopher Peters, Jennifer (Nolan) and John Redman and Leigh Ann Nolan; her treasured great-granddaughter and namesake, Ella Margaret Redman; her nephews, Joe Vanderford (Debbie) and Jim Vanderford (Theresa); her dear friend, Mae Mae; her Keystone Heights friends and neighbors; and her ‘almost granddaughter’, Laurie (Chad) Durrell and their two children, Kylee and Cade. She had recently moved to Elmcroft Assisted Living and enjoyed the short time she spent there. The night of her passing Ella was blessed to have spent the evening with family and many dear friends. A celebration of Ella’s life will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Deermeadows Baptist Church, 9780 Baymeadows Road.
