Emma P. Bates, 84, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2012. Born in Alabama to The late James and Carrie Lewis, Emma grew up in Blakely, Georgia. She met and married her beloved husband, Morable Dolphus Bates in Bainbridge, Georgia. In addition to being a wonderful wife and mother, Emma was a great multitasker, which allowed her to raise her family and work as a nurse’s aide at St. Luke’s Hospital for many years. She always could be counted on for practical solutions to any problem, but was always sensitive to others.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Emma is preceded in death by her son Roscoe Eugene, grandson William, and sisters, Lillian Wallace and Lavern Allen.
Emma leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Emma Jean, son Charles Dolphus, and daughter of the heart, Sherry Egolf; 3 grandchildren, Brenda, Linda, Shane (William); 6 Great-Grandchildren, David, Robert, Shannon, James, Michael, James; 6 great great-grandchildren, Darren, Mason, Ethan, Parker, Daniel, Baillie; brother Jimmy Lewis.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, December 31, 2012 at 12:00 PM at Evergreen Cemetery.
