

Evelyn Leggett Hughes, 96, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 25, 2017. She was born to John Frank Leggett and Grace Parrish Leggett on June 1, 1921 in Jacksonville, Florida. She was a graduate of Stanton Senior High School’s Class of 1938, and was the oldest living alumni of Edward Waters College. She taught English in the Duval County School system for well over 25 years before retirement. She was a dedicated educator, doting mother, avid bridge player, professional shopper, and life-long lover of all things fashion. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Emmitt Lee, and her sons, Rodney Emmitt and Kevin Leggett Hughes. She is survived by her sister, Sylvester Bossard, her son Frank G. Hughes, 11 grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren. Celebration services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2730 Edgewood Ave W, Jacksonville, FL 32209. Arrangements are under the care of Hardage-Giddens, 729 Edgewood Ave S, Jacksonville FL 32205.
