George graduated from Cranford High School and from Union College in Cranford. He wanted to travel and see the world, so he enlisted in the Air Force. His Air Force career took him as far as Mobile, AL, where he trained in electronics and met his wife, Elizabeth.
He finally got his wish to travel when he was hired by IBM in 1957 and was sent to Kingston, NY and then Seattle, WA. After 3 years they were transferred back to upstate NY, where he loved racing his Austin Healy in the mountains and on frozen Lake George.
After living in Endicott, Schenectady and Syracuse, New York IBM transferred him to Jacksonville. By that time there were 3 children, Carol, Jeffrey, Karen and one dog. The family knew what “IBM” stood for “I’ve been moved”.
He retired in 2002 and volunteered with AARP TAX AID and AARP safe driving for seniors. He was also an avid reader. He and Elizabeth got to enjoy more travel throughout Europe.
George was known for his dry sense of humor and witticisms. He always had a joke to tell and couldn’t wait until he could share it with the next unsuspecting acquaintance.
He was a man of unwavering, deep faith and love for his family.
He’s survived by his wife of 69 years, Elizabeth, his daughters Carol (Mark) and Karen (Adam), as well as 4 grandchildren, and 8 (and counting) great grandchildren.
