

Mr. George Ruffin McCoy Jr., aka "Mac", as he was known by his family and friends, was the second child born to George Ruffin and Rosana McCoy on August 14, 1945 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Mac grew up in Virginia Beach, VA and was educated in the Princess Anne County Public School system. He was a graduate of Historic Union Kempsville High School. After graduation, he entered the United States Marines Corp where he proudly served and was Honorably Discharged after four years. After returning home from the Marines, he moved to Jacksonville and began his career with General Motors. While in Jacksonville he met and married the love of his life, his loving and devoted wife of 35 years, Patsy McCoy.
While working for General Motors, Mac and Patsy moved to Atlanta where they lived for fifteen years. While in Atlanta, he developed a love for smoking meats and baking cookies. So much so, that he started a business and called it, "Meats & Sweets". He was widely known in the Atlanta and Decatur, Ga area for his meats and cookies. He even earned the name, “Cookie Man” from his co-workers. He loved sharing his knowledge on how to smoke meats with anyone that was willing to engage in a conversation of true knowledge. He was the master of his smoked turkeys and hams and loved sharing them with family and friends.
He had a die hard love for sports. His favorite teams were the Atlanta Falcons and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He loved to dance and he loved good conversation. He was always willing to impart his knowledge to the younger generations about life and business.
He returned to Jacksonville, FL in 2000 and he continued to work for General Motors until he retired after 30 years of service.
On October 4th, Mac slept away peacefully at home at the age of 76. He was predeceased by his parents George Ruffin and Rosana H McCoy, sisters Vera, and Rubye Rena McCoy, brother Ronald A McCoy, and son Cornelius Bo West.
George leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his wife of 35 years, Patsy Ann McCoy, son Brian West (Denelle) of Seattle, WA, grandchildren, Brian West Jr., Beau West, and Journee West, sisters, Dr. Carol Elaine Smith (Donald), Lori K Holland (Lawrence), brother, Duane E McCoy (Ann), and best friend Gene Ellison as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
