

Dr. George W. Rice, Jr., Captain, DC, USN, 83 of Jacksonville, Florida passed away on Wednesday, October 1, 2014. He was born on May 27, 1931 in Boston, MA. He graduated from Tufts University and received his MSD from Boston Univ. He was a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. He retired from the U.S. Navy after 30 years of service and opened a private practice in Jacksonville, Fl.
He is survived by the love of his life and spouse of 53 years, Phyllis J. Albro; children George W. (Janice) Rice III, Elizabeth J. McGee (Shannon), Julie A. Baskin (Sid), and Margaret K. Archer (Clay) and grandchildren Maggie and Ellie McGee, Stephanie Baskin and Emily Rice.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, October 6, 2014 at ten o’clock in the morning at San Jose Catholic Church 3619 Toledo Rd., Jacksonville, FL. Interment with full military honors will follow at the Jacksonville National Cemetery 4083 Lannie Rd., Jacksonville, FL. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 5, from four o’clock in the afternoon until six o’clock in the evening at Hardage Giddens, THE OAKLAWN CHAPEL 4801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to Community Hospice of NE Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Rd. Jacksonville, FL. 32257.
