George was the grandson of the first University of Georgia football player, George Shackelford (1892). He attended the University of Georgia and was an avid UGA football fan. He also served four years in the United States Air Force. George loved his family and will be greatly missed.
George is survived by his wife of 70 years, Grace K. Williamson; two daughters, Ginny Schurke (Ron) Jacksonville, FL, Sharon Petree (Rick) Winston-Salem, NC; grandchildren Jeremy Schurke (Jennifer) Winter Springs, FL, Jayme Price (Rob) Ponte Vedra, FL, George Petree (Olivia) Reston, VA, John Petree Winston-Salem, NC; great-grandchildren Effi and Wolfgang Schurke, Paislee, Fort, and Hadley Price.
Celebration of George's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on October 13, 2018 in the auditorium at Westminster Woods at Julington Creek. In honor of George's love of UGA football, please feel free to wear their colors to his celebration.
