

Dr. Gloria Calderon, age 91, of Middleburg Florida passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2024. Gloria was born in Manila Philippines. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Dumlao Calderon, parents Santiago and Marcelina Quinitio, and brothers Cesar and Jose Quinitio. Gloria’s greatest joy was her family and is survived by her six children, Lina Roberts (Rodney Ramirez) of Copperas Cove, TX; Ophelia Gilbert (Rory) of Jacksonville, FL; Teresa Allen (Matthew) of Cooper City, FL; Belen Calderon of Arlington, TX; Oscar Calderon (Tina) of Middleburg, FL; and Jose Calderon (Donetta) of O’Fallon, IL. Gloria was blessed with ten grandchildren: Tara Kelley, Adrian Calderon (Christen), Glenn Roberts, Erica Child (Robert), Ryan Calderon, Patrick Gilbert, Jose (JC) Calderon (Lia), Brynn Castle, Alayna Weis (Kyle), Michelle Daughtry (Paul) along with 16 great-grandchildren.
Gloria attended Manila Central University/College of Medicine at age 16 graduating in 1954. Following graduation, she volunteered with a group of physicians to rehabilitate civilians and refugees in South Vietnam post-war. On return to the Philippines in 1956, she practiced pulmonary disease medicine.
Gloria came to the United States of America in 1967. While continuing as a pulmonologist through 1973, she attended post graduate training for psychiatry. She transitioned to a long professional career in psychiatry, specializing in child, adolescent, geriatric, and forensic psychiatry. While working at Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee, FL she held positions of Acting Clinical Director and as President of the Medical Staff and Mental Health Executive Director of Special Psychiatry Services. Gloria practiced psychiatry in Nebraska, South Dakota, West Virginia and Florida; operating private practices in Parkersburg, WV and Jacksonville, FL. She did Locum Tenens psychiatry and was a psychiatrist for the State of Florida Department of Corrections before returning to Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee, FL for a second term until she retired in 2015.
Gloria was highly dedicated to her career and devoted her life to the field of psychiatry. She was known for her kind heart, generosity and unwavering support for her family. She was passionate with ballroom dancing and competed in many events. She spent many hours gardening not only in her yard but in the yards of her children. She loved reading, sewing (she sewed her own ballroom dance wear), crafting and traveling. Above all, she cherished spending time with the greatest joy of her life —her family.
Gloria will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
Services will be held at Green Lawn Cemetery, 4300 Beach Blvd Jacksonville, FL 32207 on Friday December 6, 2024. The family will receive friends at 12:00 pm with a service immediately following at 1:00 pm.
